Orioles could re-sign Johan Santana
Johan Santana could get another chance to revive his career with the Baltimore Orioles next season, as executive vice-president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said Wednesday the club is open to re-signing the beleaguered left-hander.
Santana signed a minor-league deal with the Orioles last winter, determined to make his way back to the majors after undergoing shoulder surgery that sidelined him for the entire 2013 season. The 35-year-old was on the verge of joining Baltimore's rotation in June before suffering a torn Achilles during an extended Spring Training outing that abruptly quashed his comeback attempt.
Santana, a two-time Cy Young award winner, last pitched in the majors in 2012, when he fashioned a 4.85 ERA with a 1.3 WHIP over 21 starts for the New York Mets.
