Rangers decline $13.5-million option on Alex Rios

The Texas Rangers officially declined Alex Rios's option for next season, making the 33-year-old outfielder a free agent for the first time in his career.
Rios was reportedly informed his $13.5-million club option was not going to be picked up two weeks ago. Friday's transaction marks the end of the seven-year, $70-million contract he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2008.
The speedy outfielder posted his worst OPS since 2009 this year, and his four homers were the fewest he's ever hit in a season.
