Reds urged Hamilton not to participate in MLB's Japan tour

The Cincinnati Reds believe less is more for rookie Billy Hamilton after his first full season in the big leagues. 

Directed by the Reds' front office, Hamilton decided to forego the invitation to participate in Major League Baseball's promotional tour in Japan. 

"We thought it was best for him to take some time off and recuperate," manager Walt Jocketty told John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer. "He got worn down at the end of the year. (Manager Bryan Price) talked to him about (it) and he understood. It was our best interest and his best interest."

Hamilton appeared in 152 games last season, hitting .250/.292/.355 with six home runs, 48 RBIs and 56 stolen bases.

The 24-year-old also missed the final four games of the season with a concussion following a collision with the outfield wall.
