Report: Padres hire longtime Dodgers scouting director Logan White
Logan White, the Los Angeles Dodgers scouting director who oversaw the selection of both Clayton Kershaw and Matt Kemp, is reportedly relocating to San Diego, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.
White, who spent 11 seasons with the Dodgers before being promoted to vice president of amateur scouting, is expected to serve as professional scouting director for the San Diego Padres as well as senior advisor to A.J. Preller, the club's newly-hired general manager, reports Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.
White, himself a 23rd-round selection in the 1984 draft, is familiar with the Padres organization, having served as the club's west coast supervisor from 1993 to 1995.
White broke down his scouting profile during an interview with Ben Nicholson-Smith in 2011:
I think that I’m a person who can understand the delivery, the arm action, the mechanics, how a body works, but also someone who can understand the mental side for the player. I think I was ahead of the curve in understanding that the player’s performance has to follow and I was always looking for backgrounds of success. I’m also a person that likes tools. I know in the game today, particularly in a large-market city like L.A., you have to draft impact players.
