The Oakland Athletics are heading back to the postseason for the third consecutive season after defeating the Texas Rangers 4-0 on Sunday.
Sonny Gray threw a complete-game shutout to help the A's clinch a wild-card berth on the final day of the regular season and eliminate the Seattle Mariners from playoff contention.
Oakland will now travel to Kansas City on Tuesday for a one-game showdown with the Royals, who are back in the postseason for the first time since 1985.
The Athletics led the American League West by four games on August 10, but have gone 16-30 since to back into the postseason.
