Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco broke up Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Edinson Volquez's no-hit bid in the seventh inning of Friday's game with a single.
Volquez threw six innings without allowing a hit while striking out five, but did allow a pair of walks in addition to plunking Mesoraco with a pitch in the second inning.
It's been a bounce back season for the 10-year veteran. Entering Friday, Volquez owned a 11-7 record in 26 starts, a year after finishing 9-12 with a 5.71 ERA in 33 appearances between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.
