Mets recall demoted catcher Travis d'Arnaud

Chris Humphreys / USA Today Sports

Travis d'Arnaud came to the New York Mets under the weight of massive expectations, having been a top minor league prospect for years and featuring as a linchpin for the Mets in the deal that sent Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey to Toronto.

But so far, the 25-year-old catcher just hasn't been able to find his groove in the big leagues. Part of that has been due to injuries, and another part of it surely has to do with confidence. In any case, the fact is that d'Arnaud has hit just .189/.271/.273 in his 70 games in the majors.

The Mets sent d'Arnaud down to Triple-A Las Vegas two weeks ago, hoping he could sort things out down there, and they appear convinced that he has.

What sold them? Probably the fact that d'Arnaud hit .436 with six home runs, eight doubles, and 16 RBI in 15 games with Las Vegas.

The Mets have yet to announce a corresponding roster move.
