Royals' Brooks allows five runs before recording an out in first major league start
Kansas City Royals right-hander Aaron Brooks' first career major league start was a nightmare.
The 24-year-old, who made his major league debut May 3 and allowed six runs in two innings of relief, lasted 2/3 of inning on Saturday in Toronto, allowing seven runs on five hits, three walks and two hit batters.
Toronto opened the game scoring five runs before Brooks and the Royals even recorded an out.
Batter | Result |
---|---|
Jose Reyes | BB |
Melky Cabrera | HBP |
Jose Bautista | 2B, RBI |
Edwin Encarnacion | BB |
Adam Lind | 1B, RBI |
Brett Lawrie | HBP, RBI |
Juan Francisco | 2B, 2 RBI |
Dioner Navarro | BB |
Blue Jays center fielder Anthony Gose grounded into a double play in what would be Brooks' only batter he retired during his 42-pitch outing.
Jose Reyes and Melky Cabrera followed with RBI singles before Ned Yost had enough, and brought in right-handed reliever Michael Mariot, who induced an inning-ending popup from Jose Bautista.
