Report: Mets re-sign SS Omar Quintanilla to minor-league deal

The Mets reportedly re-signed shortstop Omar Quintanilla on Saturday, just weeks after the veteran infielder was non-tendered by the club, reports ESPN's Adam Rubin.

Quintanilla, who turned 32 in October, was the team's primary shortstop last season, logging 89 starts at the position.  The Mets ultimately elected to non-tender Quintanilla, who is arbitration-eligible, after he hit just .222/.306/.283 with 13 extra-base hits over 359 plate appearances.

While Mets executives stated earlier this offseason that Ruben Tejada will serve as the club's everyday shortstop in 2014, Quintanilla could contend for playing time if he makes the big-league roster.
