Masahiro Tanaka posted: Let the bidding wars begin
If you are already tired of hearing about Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, the next few weeks might not be very fun. Teams who are willing to pay his posting fee (capped at $20 million) to the Rakuten Golden Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball have until Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. ET to sign him.
There are reports Tanaka, who finished the regular season with a 24-0 record and 1.27 ERA, signed with Derek Jeter's agent Casey Close. Newsday took it one step further and said an "industry source" revealed the Yankees have already talked to Close - so it seems like they are fairly interested. Not really a surprise.
Besides the Yankees, CBS Sports suggested the Angels could benefit from his help in their rotation. And the Mariners might need him too - they spent a lot on Robinson Cano ($240 million, really), but he can only do so much.
