Nationals, Mikolas agree to 1-year, $2.25M deal

The Washington Nationals agreed to a one-year deal with former 18-game winner Miles Mikolas, the team announced Wednesday.

Mikolas will earn $2.25 million plus incentives, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

Mikolas won 68 games and logged 1,161 innings for the Cardinals from 2018-25 after three seasons in Japan. He went 8-11 with a 4.84 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 2025.

The 37-year-old has remained durable late into his career. The right-hander was one of four pitchers to start more than 30 times in every season between 2022-25, along with Logan Webb, Dylan Cease, and Kevin Gausman.

Washington's rotation could include some combination of Mikolas, Cade Cavalli, Brad Lord, Jake Irvin, Josiah Gray, and Foster Griffin after it traded left-hander MacKenzie Gore to the Texas Rangers in January.

The Nationals' rotation ranked 18th in innings pitched and near the bottom of the majors in ERA, FIP, and homers allowed last season.
