Castellanos addresses trade rumors: 'Whatever happens is going to happen'
It doesn't appear that Nick Castellanos will be a member of the Philadelphia Phillies by the time the 2026 campaign gets underway.
Castellanos and the Phillies are expected to separate before spring training, sources told MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.
The 33-year-old has fallen out of favor with the organization and posted one of his worst seasons in 2025. The Phillies benched him at one point for comments and actions he made in the dugout after manager Rob Thomson removed him from a game in Miami.
"There's a lot of stuff right now that's out of my control as far as the trade talks and everything," the 13-year veteran said Friday on MLB Network.
"So, I'm just trying to focus on making sure today, I get done what needs to get done. Whatever happens is going to happen."
The two-time All-Star, who was among the worst defensive outfielders in baseball last season, added that he is open to learning first base to accommodate a trade if "a team or somebody needs me to do that."
Castellanos has been on the trade block for the past two seasons. He has one year and $20 million left on his contract.
