The Los Angeles Angels hired former big-league catcher Kurt Suzuki as their next manager, the team announced Tuesday.

Suzuki spent the last three seasons as a special assistant to Angels general manager Perry Minasian after retiring from MLB as a player following the 2022 campaign.

The 42-year-old Suzuki will be the fifth Angels manager since Mike Scioscia's final season as skipper in 2018. Suzuki has no previous experience as a manager.

Ron Washington managed the Angels for parts of the last two seasons but stepped aside during the 2025 campaign to undergo medical treatment for a heart condition. He was replaced on an interim basis by Ray Montgomery.

The Angels were reportedly connected to former players Albert Pujols and Torii Hunter before they were each ruled out as managerial candidates Monday.

The Angels finished the 2025 season with a 72-90 record. They have not made the postseason since 2014 despite employing superstars like Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani in the past decade.
