Report: Red Sox, Chapman agree to 1-year, $13.3M extension

The Boston Red Sox and left-handed closer Aroldis Chapman agreed to a one-year, $13.3-million extension for the 2026 season, sources told MassLive's Chris Cotillo.

The deal reportedly also includes a vesting option for the 2027 campaign based on innings. Chapman can earn $26 million over the two seasons if the option vests, Cotillo adds.

Chapman, 37, owns a 1.04 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 52 innings for the Red Sox after signing a one-year, $10.75-million deal in December. His 26 saves rank fifth in the American League, while his 2.2 fWAR is tied for the highest among qualified MLB relievers.

The eight-time All-Star hasn't allowed a hit since July 23 and has given up just one earned run in the second half of the season.
