Breslow: 'A lot of confidence' in Cora as Red Sox manager

Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow believes Alex Cora is the right person to manage the club and has full confidence in his skipper despite the team's tough season thus far.

"We're always going to be anchored to what is best for the team, and we have a lot of confidence in Alex as the leader of this group," Breslow said on "The Greg Hill Show."

"He's won in Boston as a player. He's won in Boston as a manager. We have conversations daily about everything that we can do to get us back on track. That's where our focus is, and that's where it will remain."

Breslow maintains the blame needs to be shared, and pulling the team out of its rut will require a collaborative effort.

"When a team is struggling like we are, and it's falling short of the lofty expectations we had set for ourselves and the fans had set for us, we all feel a sense of responsibility and accountability," he said. "But we've got to figure this out, and that's where we're spending all of our time."

Cora has been manager since 2018, minus a one-year absence in 2020 after the two sides parted ways due to his involvement in the Houston Asrtros' sign-stealing scandal. The 49-year-old has won a World Series, a pennant, and 551 games during his Red Sox tenure.

Boston's recent struggles have led to speculation about Cora's future. The Red Sox haven't finished a season with a winning record since 2021 and are in the midst of their worst campaign with him at the helm despite a busy offseason that included adding Garrett Crochet and Alex Bregman.

Cora admitted to being frustrated with himself and the team following a loss Wednesday to the Los Angeles Angels, saying the Red Sox weren't "getting better" and kept "making the same mistakes." Boston responded with a win Thursday.
