Brewers trade Canha to Royals

The Milwaukee Brewers traded utility player Mark Canha to the Kansas City Royals for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the clubs announced Saturday.

Canha slashed .242/.344/.346 with 20 doubles and 42 RBIs for the Detroit Tigers and San Francisco Giants last season. He posted a .376 on-base percentage with the Giants after he was traded to the Bay Area last July.

The 36-year-old hit .087/.250/.261 in 23 spring at-bats after signing a minor-league contract with the Brewers in February. He was expected to exercise an opt-out in his contract with Milwaukee, which is why he was traded, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

Kansas City will be Canha's sixth team of his 10-year career. He'll likely fill a bench role on the club, along with catcher Freddy Fermin, infielder Nick Loftin, and outfielder Dairon Blanco.
