The Cleveland Guardians have depended on right-hander Cade Smith quite a bit throughout the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers, and his effectiveness earned him a place in the history books Saturday.
Smith struck out his 12th batter of the ALDS to become the relief pitcher with the most strikeouts in division series history, according to The Athletic's Zack Meisel.
The 25-year-old rookie also became the first Cleveland pitcher to appear in all fives games of a division series.
Smith was a tremendous contributor for the Guardians' bullpen during his first major-league season, posting a 6-1 record with a 1.91 ERA and 12.3 K/9 in 75 1/3 innings.
His postseason ERA is 1.42 to go along with 12 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.
