Blue Jays send Richards to Twins
The Minnesota Twins acquired right-hander Trevor Richards from the Toronto Blue Jays for minor-league infielder Jay Harry, the teams announced.
Richards spent the past four seasons with the Blue Jays. The 31-year-old owns a 4.64 ERA and 8.4 K/9 in 52 1/3 innings this season.
"I know a couple of guys over there," Richards said following the trade, according to Sportsnet's Hazel Mae. "They all speak highly of it."
He added: "Excited to go and get back in the race and play baseball. It's the same game, just different teams. ... Just get over there and get back to work."
The veteran reliever is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
The Twins selected Harry, 22, in the sixth round of the 2023 draft. He's played 82 games this season at High-A Cedar Rapids, slashing .214/.306/.349 with 39 RBIs in 340 plate appearances.
Minnesota designated right-hander Josh Staumont for assignment to make room for Richards on the 40-man roster, according to the Star Tribune's Phil Miller.
