Report: White Sox exploring Robert trade packages
The Chicago White Sox are actively searching for trade packages for outfielder Luis Robert Jr., according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
The price for Robert will likely be steep as the 2023 All-Star has a pair of club options that can keep him under contract through 2027. He's making $12.5 million this season, $15 million in 2025, and then $20 million over 2026-27 if his options are exercised.
The 26-year-old entered Thursday's action with 77 homers, 215 RBIs, 47 stolen bases, and an .825 OPS over five years in the majors. He went deep a career-high 38 times and posted a 4.9 fWAR last year.
However, Robert has legitimate injury concerns. He's only played in 10 games in 2024 due to a hip flexor strain, and he suited up in a combined 166 contests from 2021-22 due to multiple long-term ailments.
Chicago is expected to be a major seller at the trade deadline. The club currently owns the worst record in baseball at 15-48 thanks to a franchise-record 14-game losing streak.
The San Diego Padres have reportedly already shown strong interest in White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet. Chicago dealt ace Dylan Cease to San Diego in mid-March.
