O'Neill injured in collision with Devers on pop-up

Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill collided with third baseman Rafael Devers while chasing a pop-up and was forced to leave Monday's game at the end of the seventh inning.

Both players were eventually able to walk off the field after being examined by trainers. O'Neill was bleeding and had a towel covering his face as he went to the clubhouse.

Devers, who held on for the catch, was shaken up but remained in the game.

Following Boston's 6-0 loss to Cleveland, manager Alex Cora said O'Neill received eight stitches above his left eye to close the cut and was also going through concussion protocol. Devers was feeling better but will continue to be monitored over the next few days.

"We'll see what happens next. (O'Neill's) going through concussion protocol; hopefully, everything is fine," Cora said, according to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald. "(Devers), same deal, he got hit hard. He says he feels good, so we'll wait and see."

O'Neill has been off to a hot start in his first season with the Red Sox, hitting .313/.459/.750 with seven homers and eight RBIs through 15 games.
