Cardinals, Edman avoid arb with 2-year deal reportedly worth $16.5M

The St. Louis Cardinals and utility man Tommy Edman agreed to a two-year contract on Monday.

While the Cardinals did not disclose terms of the contract, the deal is worth $16.5 million, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Edman, 28, was heading into his second and penultimate season of arbitration eligibility. He originally requested a $6.95-million salary for 2024, while the team countered with $6.5 million. The former Gold Glove winner remains eligible to test free agency following the 2025 campaign.

Edman is hitting .265/.319/.408 with 53 homers and 106 steals over 596 games through five seasons. He's coming off a down year at the plate, during which he posted a .705 OPS while splitting time relatively evenly between second base, third base, and center field.
