Astros GM not interested in trading Bregman: He's 'a pillar here'
Houston Astros general manager Dana Brown has no intention of trading third baseman Alex Bregman.
"We're not interested in trading him," Brown said Monday, according to The Athletic's Chandler Rome.
"I think Alex knows that and understands that based on our conversations. I'm not worried one bit about the articles and rumors."
Bregman is entering the final season of a six-year, $100-million contract extension signed in March 2019.
The 29-year-old has spent his entire career with the Astros after he was taken second overall in the 2015 draft.
Bregman is a two-time All-Star and two-time World Series winner. He enjoyed a strong season in 2023, hitting .262 with 25 home runs, 103 runs scored, and 98 RBIs across 161 games.
"At the end of the day, Alex is a pillar here," Brown said. "You can't replace that type of defense and that type of bat. So, we're not interested in that. We're trying to win here."
Brown said in February that Bregman and second baseman Jose Altuve "should retire" as Astros. Altuve is also entering the final year of his contract.
