Reds, Nick Martinez agree to 2-year, $26M deal
The Cincinnati Reds announced a two-year, $26-million deal with right-hander Nick Martinez on Friday.
Martinez's deal includes an opt-out after the first year.
The 33-year-old pitcher opted out of the final two years of his deal with the San Diego Padres to become a free agent, passing up $16 million to do so.
Martinez had another solid campaign with the Padres last season, authoring a 3.43 ERA and 3.92 FIP in 110 1/3 innings.
Most of his 63 appearances came in relief, but he did make nine starts for the Padres, pitching as many as seven innings in one of them.

It's the second deal in as many days by the Reds, who agreed to a one-year, $8-million pact with reliever Emilio Pagán.
The Reds have been on the hunt for pitching this winter after winning 20 more games last season than they did in 2022. Cincinnati has been connected to Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow and Cleveland Guardians ace Shane Bieber.
