Report: Red Sox in contact with Montgomery's agent
The Boston Red Sox have been in contact with free-agent left-hander Jordan Montgomery's agent, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
Montgomery is one of the premier starting pitchers available on the free-agent market after a strong second half of the season as a member of the Texas Rangers.
The 30-year-old posted a 2.79 ERA in 11 starts with the Rangers after they acquired him in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Montgomery played a vital role in Texas' first World Series championship, registering a 3-1 record with a 2.90 ERA in six postseason appearances.
The Red Sox are currently projected to enter the 2024 campaign with a starting rotation of Chris Sale, Nick Pivetta, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and Tanner Houck.
Montgomery has experience pitching in the AL East after spending parts of six seasons as a member of the New York Yankees.
