Tatis, Volpe earn 1st Gold Gloves; Rangers, Cubs, Jays win 3 each
Major League Baseball announced the Gold Glove Award winners for the 2023 season Sunday.
The World Series champion Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Chicago Cubs each had three players claim honors, while rookies Anthony Volpe and Brenton Doyle were rewarded for their debut campaigns.

AL Catcher
Winner: Jonah Heim (TEX)
Nominees: Alejandro Kirk (TOR), Adley Rutschman (BAL)
Heim wins the first Gold Glove of his career after finishing the regular season in the 97th percentile in framing and the 90th percentile in caught stealing above average.
AL First Base
Winner: Nathaniel Lowe (TEX)
Nominees: Ryan Mountcastle (BAL), Anthony Rizzo, (NYY)
Lowe, who played 161 games at first for the World Series champions, made just three errors all season.

AL Second Base
Winner: Andrés Giménez (CLE)
Nominees: Mauricio Dubón (HOU), Marcus Semien (TEX)
Giménez nabs back-to-back Gold Gloves after recording the second-highest amount of defensive runs saved (23) in the majors, per FanGraphs.
AL Third Base
Winner: Matt Chapman (TOR)
Nominees: Alex Bregman (HOU), José Ramírez (CLE)
Chapman earns the fourth Gold Glove of his career after posting a .968 fielding percentage in 1,213 2/3 innings.

AL Shortstop
Winner: Anthony Volpe (NYY)
Nominees: Carlos Correa (MIN), Corey Seager (TEX)
Volpe is the first New York Yankees rookie to win a Gold Glove after he logged 15 defensive runs saved in nearly 1,350 innings at shortstop in 2023.
AL Left Field
Winner: Steven Kwan (CLE)
Nominees: Austin Hays (BAL), Daulton Varsho (TOR)
Kwan captures back-to-back Gold Gloves in left field after finishing with 16 defensive runs saved and ranking in the 95th percentile in range.
AL Center Field
Winner: Kevin Kiermaier (TOR)
Nominees: Luis Robert Jr. (CWS), Julio Rodríguez (SEA)
Kiermaier wins the fourth Gold Glove of his career after another impressive season full of highlight-reel grabs and defensive consistency.

AL Right Field
Winner: Adolis García (TEX)
Nominees: Kyle Tucker (HOU), Alex Verdugo (BOS)
García lands his first Gold Glove thanks to 11 outfield assists and one of the game's best arms. His arm ranked in the 98th percentile in value and in the 95th percentile in strength.
AL Utility
Winner: Mauricio Dubón (HOU)
Nominees: Zach McKinstry (DET), Taylor Walls (TB)
Dubón was tremendous defensively at second base while filling in for the injured José Altuve, but he also played first, third, short, and all three outfield positions for the Astros.
AL Pitcher
Winner: José Berríos (TOR)
Nominees: Sonny Gray (MIN), Pablo López (MIN)
Berríos claims the honor for American League pitchers after making just two errors on 43 chances in the field.
NL Catcher
Winner: Gabriel Moreno (ARI)
Nominees: Patrick Bailey (SF), J.T. Realmuto (PHI)
Moreno earns a Gold Glove in his breakout campaign thanks to a 39% caught-stealing percentage. He also posted elite numbers in blocks above average and pop time.
NL First Base
Winner: Christian Walker (ARI)
Nominees: Freddie Freeman (LAD), Carlos Santana (PIT/MIL)
Walker wins back-to-back Gold Gloves after ranking in the 97th percentile in range and recording 11 outs above average among MLB first basemen.

NL Second Base
Winner: Nico Hoerner (CHC)
Nominees: Ha-Seong Kim (SD), Bryson Stott (PHI)
Hoerner scores the honor for the first time after establishing himself as one of the top defensive second basemen in the game as Dansby Swanson's double-play partner.
NL Third Base
Winner: Ke'Bryan Hayes (PIT)
Nominees: Ryan McMahon (COL), Austin Riley (ATL)
Hayes is the first NL winner at third base not named Nolan Arenado since 2012. The Pirates youngster led all players at his position with 21 defensive runs saved.
NL Shortstop
Winner: Dansby Swanson (CHC)
Nominees: Francisco Lindor (NYM), Ezequiel Tovar (COL)
It's a clean sweep for the Cubs' middle infield, with Swanson joining Hoerner as a Gold Glove winner. It's the second Gold Glove of Swanson's career.

NL Left Field
Winner: Ian Happ (CHC)
Nominees: David Peralta (LAD), Eddie Rosario (ATL)
Happ secures his second career Gold Glove thanks to 12 outfield assists and a .989 fielding percentage.
NL Center Field
Winner: Brenton Doyle (COL)
Nominees: Michael Harris II (ATL), Alek Thomas (ARI)
It's no surprise Doyle took home the honor. He had 19 defensive runs saved and ranked in the 99th percentile in range, arm value, and arm strength.
NL Right Field
Winner: Fernando Tatis Jr. (SD)
Nominees: Mookie Betts (LAD), Lane Thomas (WSH)
Shifting Tatis from shortstop to right field was apparently the right call for San Diego. He wins his first Gold Glove thanks to 11 outs above average and an MLB-leading 29 defensive runs saved.

NL Utility
Winner: Ha-Seong Kim (SD)
Nominees: Mookie Betts (LAD), Tommy Edman (STL)
Kim played three infield positions at an elite level for the Padres, making seven combined errors at second, third, and shortstop during the regular season.
NL Pitcher
Winner: Zack Wheeler (PHI)
Nominees: Jesús Luzardo (MIA), Taijuan Walker (PHI)
Wheeler was the NL's best fielding pitcher after making just one error all season in 32 chances.
