Blue Jays place Chapman on IL with finger injury
The Toronto Blue Jays placed third baseman Matt Chapman on the 10-day injured list with a right middle finger sprain, the club announced Monday.
Infielder Ernie Clement was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding roster move.
Chapman was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Cleveland Guardians with inflammation in his right middle finger. The 30-year-old missed several games earlier this month after jamming his finger while lifting weights.
Chapman has struggled after a blistering offensive performance in April, which saw him take home Player of the Month honours. He owns a .532 OPS with one home run and six RBIs across 76 at-bats in August.
The Blue Jays enter play Tuesday trailing the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros by 2.5 games for a wild-card spot in the American League.
