Nationals' Martinez calls obstruction rule 'brutal' after non-call in loss to Astros
Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez was livid following his team's 5-4 loss to the Houston Astros on Wednesday after a potential obstruction call at first base didn't go his team's way.
"I'm over this play. They need to fix the rule," Martinez said postgame.
The skipper was upset after the Nationals attempted a double play in the bottom of the ninth inning. After getting the out at home, catcher Keibert Ruiz's throw got away from first baseman Michael Chavis, allowing the winning run to score.

Martinez raced onto the field following the play to argue that baserunner Jake Meyers obstructed the throw, which would have sent the game to extra innings had the Nationals secured the out.
The skipper's anger continued during his postgame interview, with Martinez showing media a printout of where Meyers was running up the first-base line.
"I'm tired of it. I'm tired of it. Fix it. We lost the game and (the umpire) has nothing to say about it because he can't make the right call," Martinez added. "Brutal. Brutal."

The play is similar to one between the Nationals and Astros during the 2019 World Series.
