Red Sox designate Ryan Brasier for assignment
The Boston Red Sox designated right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier for assignment, the team announced following Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Boston reinstated left-hander Joely Rodriguez from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding roster move Monday.
"Honestly, (a) new start might not be bad," the 35-year-old Brasier said, according to Christopher Smith of Masslive. "Obviously, getting to play at Fenway every day is a dream come true. Two parks you want to play at growing up are Yankees Stadium and Fenway. And I got to do both a lot. So grateful. It sucks, obviously, but new start."
Brasier got knocked around in the 9-1 loss to St. Louis that finished off the three-game sweep, allowing three runs on four hits over 2 1/3 innings. Through Sunday's action, Brasier possesses a 7.29 ERA and 4.38 FIP in 21 innings.
Over seven major-league seasons, the righty has a 4.37 ERA over 228 appearances, notching nine saves.
Brasier was on a one-year, $2-million contract.
