Glen Kuiper will not return as the television broadcaster for the Oakland Athletics after using a racial slur during a broadcast in early May, NBC Sports California announced Monday.

"Following an internal review, the decision has been made for NBC Sports California to end its relationship with Glen Kuiper, effective immediately," a spokesperson told The Athletic's Steve Berman. "We thank Glen for his dedication to Bay Area baseball over the years."

Kuiper used the slur during a game between the Athletics and the Kansas City Royals while stating that he and broadcast partner Dallas Braden had recently visited the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City.

Kuiper issued a statement following news of his dismissal.

"Please know racism is in no way a part of me; it never has been, and it never will be," Kuiper wrote, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Matt Kawahara.

He added: "I wish the Oakland A's and NBC Sports would have taken into consideration my 20-year career, my solid reputation, integrity, and character. But in this current environment, traits like integrity and character are no longer considered."

The network suspended Kuiper indefinitely following the incident and launched an investigation.

Kuiper, 59, was in his 17th season as the primary television voice for the Athletics on NBC Sports California.

Radio broadcasters Johnny Doskow and Vince Cotroneo have filled in while Kuiper has been absent.
