Pirates' Reynolds: Franco's flip throw 'didn't impress me'

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco lit up the baseball world Wednesday night after he flipped the ball to himself before throwing to first base for an out against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The man he retired - Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds - wasn't particularly moved by the play.

"I saw it," Reynolds said, according to The Athletic's Rob Biertempfel. "It didn’t impress me."

Franco admitted afterward he's worked on that type of throw.

"I mess around in practice. Sometimes I tend to do that at practice," Franco said through an interpreter, according to MLB.com's Adam Berry. "Through instincts, I think it just happened."

Franco, 22, also hit a 425-foot home run in Tampa Bay's 8-1 victory over the Pirates at Tropicana Field.
