Stanton placed on IL, reportedly has Grade 2 hamstring strain
The New York Yankees placed designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring strain, the team announced Sunday.
After undergoing further testing, Stanton was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain, ESPN's Marly Rivera reports.
Stanton is expected to be out between four and six weeks, a source told Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.
"He was moving around OK after the game, but he definitely felt like it was, before even getting the MRI, an IL stint," said manager Aaron Boone.
The oft-injured slugger was removed for a pinch hitter during Saturday's game against the Minnesota Twins after hitting a double in the seventh inning.
Boone confirmed Stanton injured his hamstring decelerating on his way to second during the seventh frame.
Stanton is hitting .269/.296/.558 with four homers and 11 RBIs in 13 games this season.
New York is already down a number of players in the early parts of the campaign, including Carlos Rodon, Josh Donaldson, Harrison Bader, Frankie Montas, and Luis Severino.
The Yankees recalled infielder Oswald Peraza to take Stanton's spot on the active roster.
