Montas 'wasn't 100%' when Yankees acquired him from A's
New York Yankees right-hander Frankie Montas said he "wasn't 100%" healthy when he was acquired in a trade-deadline deal with the Oakland Athletics last season.
"I was trying to push through. I got traded to a new team and wanted to show what I could do," Montas said, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
"Things didn't go the way I was expecting."
The 29-year-old dealt with a shoulder problem in Oakland, and the same issue, which the Yankees later diagnosed as inflammation, caused him to throw just one inning in the postseason.
Montas also underwhelmed in eight regular-season starts with New York, posting a 6.35 ERA and 4.93 FIP.
The hurler underwent shoulder surgery in February after experiencing discomfort before spring camp. He "for sure" expects to return this season, although no target date has been set.
Montas and reliever Lou Trivino were traded from the Athletics in August for four players. Montas becomes a free agent at the end of this season.
