Blue Jays to honor Bautista with Level of Excellence on Aug. 12

Joey Bats is set to live on forever.

The Toronto Blue Jays will honor six-time All-Star outfielder Jose Bautista by awarding him with the Level of Excellence on Aug. 12, the team announced.

Bautista, 42, hasn't played in the majors since 2018. He spent the best years of his career in Toronto, hitting .253/.372/.506 with 288 home runs and 766 RBIs in 1,235 games while receiving top-10 votes for American League MVP on four occasions.

The Blue Jays Level of Excellence is awarded to someone who has displayed tremendous individual achievement for the organization. The names and numbers of the honourees are displayed on the facing of the 500 level at the Rogers Centre.

Recipients of the honor include players George Bell, Joe Carter, Carlos Delgado, Tony Fernandez, Roy Halladay, and Dave Stieb. Other honourees include executives Paul Beeston and Pat Gillick, commentator Tom Cheek, and manager Cito Gaston.
