The Miami Marlins signed first baseman Yuli Gurriel and infielder Jose Iglesias to minor-league contracts, the team announced Friday.

Iglesias spent the 2022 campaign with the Colorado Rockies. The 33-year-old hit .292 with three home runs, 47 RBIs, and 30 doubles across 118 games.

Gurriel spent the first seven seasons of his major-league career with the Houston Astros after defecting from Cuba. He helped them win World Series titles in 2017 and 2022.

The 38-year-old Gurriel struggled mightily with the Astros last season. He stumbled to a .242/.288/.360 slash line with eight home runs and 53 RBIs across 146 games. Gurriel elevated his game in the postseason, hitting .347 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs en route to Houston's World Series victory.

The Marlins struggled offensively in 2022. Miami ranked in the bottom third of the league in home runs, runs scored, slugging percentage, and wRC+.

Gurriel will provide rookie manager Skip Schumaker with a veteran option at first base to complement incumbent starter Garrett Cooper.
