Rangers hire Bochy as manager on 3-year contract
The Texas Rangers announced Friday they hired manager Bruce Bochy to a three-year contract.
Bochy, 67, won three World Series titles during his 13 seasons with the San Francisco Giants. He hasn't managed in the majors since 2019.
"I am incredibly excited to be joining the Texas Rangers," Bochy said in a statement. "Over the last several days, I've had extensive conversations with Chris Young and other individuals in the organization, and I had the chance to meet with Ray Davis. Their vision and commitment to putting together a club that can contend and win year in and year out is impressive, and I became convinced I wanted to be a part of that."
He added, "If I was going to return to managing, it had to be the right situation. I strongly believe that to be the case with the Rangers, and I can't wait to get started."
Bochy takes over a Rangers team that disappointed again in 2022. Texas fired manager Chris Woodward in August and finished with a 68-94 record despite handing infielders Corey Seager and Marcus Semien a combined $500 million in free agency.
The Rangers have missed the postseason in six consecutive campaigns and haven't registered a winning season since 2016.
