Nationals place Ruiz on IL with testicular contusion
The Washington Nationals announced they placed catcher Keibert Ruiz on the 10-day injured list with a testicular contusion.
Ruiz was sent to the hospital with swollen testicles after taking a foul ball to the groin during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.
The 24-year-old initially stayed in the game but was later replaced by Riley Adams.
After getting hit with a foul ball in an undesirable area this afternoon, Keibert Ruiz is getting checked out at a nearby hospital because his testicles swelled up. Martinez said they plan to hold a bus until he’s back.

Ruiz has since been released from hospital and is traveling from St. Louis to Philadelphia, where the Nationals are playing this weekend. Manager Dave Martinez said Friday that Ruiz will be fully shut down for three weeks, a move that essentially ends his season, according to MASN's Mark Zuckerman.
Ruiz hit .251/.313/.360 with seven home runs, 22 doubles, and 36 RBIs in 112 games this season.
The Nationals selected the contract of catcher Israel Pineda to take Ruiz's spot on the active roster.
