Castellanos jaws with reporter over 'stupid question' after Phillies loss
Castellanos was booed by the Citizens Bank Park faithful after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Saturday's defeat. Afterward, he got into a brief sparring match with a reporter who asked if he heard the boos.
"Nah, man, I lost my hearing," Castellanos replied. "Come on man. It's a stupid question." When the reporter asked why he thought the question was stupid, Castellanos replied: "Can anybody else answer that for him? Anybody?"
The tense exchange between the two continued before a Phillies staff member stepped in to usher media away from Castellanos' locker.
The Phillies signed Castellanos to a five-year, $100-million contract this winter on the heels of his Silver Slugger-winning 2021 campaign with the Cincinnati Reds. But the 30-year-old has yet to find his footing in Philadelphia, hitting just .245/.290/.366 with eight homers and 46 RBIs.
Saturday's loss dropped the Phillies to 9-7 in July. They now sit 8.5 games back of the first-place New York Mets and just five ahead of the fourth-place Miami Marlins.
