Report: Mets among teams eyeing Orioles' Mancini

Trey Mancini has plenty of suitors heading into trade season, and the New York Mets are among the teams showing interest in the Baltimore Orioles slugger, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Mancini could find himself in a new uniform for the stretch run, given he's one of the Orioles' pending free agents. His one-year contract contains a $10-million mutual option for 2023 with a $250,000 buyout. Mutual options are rarely exercised by both parties.

The 30-year-old was named AL Comeback Player of the Year last season after appearing in 147 games following his recovery from colon cancer. He's enjoying another solid season at the plate, hitting .280/.356/.421 with seven homers and 30 RBIs across 295 plate appearances for Baltimore.

Mancini offers some positional flexibility as a right-handed bat who can play capable defense at first base and both corner outfield spots. In Flushing, he'd be another versatile option who could start at multiple positions down the stretch alongside J.D. Davis, Dominic Smith, and Jeff McNeil.

There would also be a familiar face awaiting him in the Mets' dugout, as skipper Buck Showalter managed Mancini in Baltimore during his first three big-league seasons.
