Report: Mets, Padres, Twins eyeing Reds' Castillo

The New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, and San Diego Padres are among a few clubs showing an early interest in acquiring Cincinnati Reds right-hander Luis Castillo, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Castillo, who's arbitration-eligible through 2023, will likely be one of the top trade targets available this summer before the Aug. 2 deadline.

The 29-year-old owns a 3.71 ERA with 9.7 K/9 over six years with the Reds. He was named an All-Star in 2019.

The NL East-leading Mets have had a strong starting rotation this year despite significant injuries. Jacob deGrom has yet to pitch this season because of a shoulder ailment, Max Scherzer has been sidelined since mid-May with an oblique strain, and Tylor Megill is dealing with a shoulder strain.

Meanwhile, the Padres' rotation already features Blake Snell, Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, Mike Clevinger, and MacKenzie Gore. However, the team has been very aggressive over the last few years in adding pitching talent through trades.

This season, Twins' starters are in the middle of the pack with a 4.7 fWAR. Adding Castillo to the roster would give Minnesota a solid trifecta with Joe Ryan and former Reds teammate Sonny Gray.
