The Pittsburgh Pirates designated former first-round pick Cole Tucker for assignment Monday after acquiring infielder Yu Chang in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians, the team announced.

Pittsburgh sent cash considerations to Cleveland for Chang.

The Pirates selected Tucker 24th overall in 2014, but he's failed to live up to expectations at the big-league level, slashing .211/.259/.314 with five home runs and 35 RBIs in four seasons.

However, the 25-year-old provided Pittsburgh with defensive versatility throughout his tenure with the organization, appearing at five different positions.

The Pirates add Chang to their roster after the Guardians designated him for assignment Thursday.

The 26-year-old failed to record a hit this season in 10 at-bats after having the best campaign of his major-league career in 2021. Chang hit nine homers and 39 RBIs in 89 games last season.
