Counsell: Peralta 'to miss a significant amount of time' with shoulder injury
The Milwaukee Brewers' starting rotation took a big hit on Monday, with manager Craig Counsell announcing right-hander Freddy Peralta will miss significant time due to a shoulder injury.
"It (MRI) showed that it's a posterior shoulder strain. He is going to miss a significant amount of time," the skipper said, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.
"He will be back this season, but it's going to be a lengthy absence. We're confident that there is going to be no aftereffects of this thing, but it's going to take a while to heal and build him back up."
Surgery on Peralta's shoulder remains unnecessary and has not been discussed, Counsell added.
The Brewers placed Peralta on the 15-day injured list on Monday after he exited a start on Sunday with shoulder tightness.
Peralta owned a 4.42 ERA and 11.6 K/9 in eight starts this season after a breakout All-Star campaign in 2021.
