Texas Rangers designated hitter/outfielder Willie Calhoun doesn't want to play for the club anymore after he was optioned to the minors Sunday.
"(I'm) gonna go to Triple-A and put myself in a position to get traded," Calhoun said, according to Levi Weaver of The Athletic. "I do want to be traded."
Calhoun, a former top prospect and key piece in the 2017 Yu Darvish trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, doesn't believe he's on the same page with Rangers coaches.
"I don't agree with some of the hitting philosophies from the new guys," Calhoun said. "I don't process that (information) too well. I'm not 6-4, 230 pounds; I can't hit pop-up home runs. I don't have that leverage."
The 27-year-old added he's confident he can be successful in the majors with a different club.
"I know I can be a .300 hitter," Calhoun said. "It's gonna be in a different uniform, for sure. … I don't know if I'll play another game in a Rangers uniform. And I let them know that."
Calhoun owns a .241/.300/.407 slash line with 32 homers across 253 games with the Rangers since debuting in 2017. His best season came in 2019 when he went deep 21 times with an .848 OPS in 83 contests. However, he's hitting .136/.283/.273 over 18 games in 2022, and he's struggled to stay on the field throughout his career because of injuries and underperformance.
