The MLBPA insists on players accruing full service time for the 2022 campaign despite the ongoing lockout that has already wiped out the first two regular-season series, a source told Andy Martino of SNY.
MLB is reportedly expected to fight the union on the matter.
Los Angeles Angels superstar and reigning AL MVP Shohei Ohtani, New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso, and St. Louis Cardinals ace Jack Flaherty will be impacted if the work stoppage lasts 15 days into the regular season.
All three players could see their free agency pushed back a year to 2025.
The union and the league reportedly met informally Thursday to try to spark talks after negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement fell apart Tuesday.
