Washington Nationals left-hander Seth Romero was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated in Texas on Friday, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office, via Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post.

The 25-year-old out of West Columbia, Texas, was released on $5,000 bond.

"We are aware of the incident involving Seth Romero," a Nationals spokesperson said in a statement following the arrest. "We are working to gather more information and will refrain from making further comments at this time."

Romero was selected 25th overall by the Nationals in the 2017 draft despite a number of incidences involving his conduct at the University of Houston.

Romero was suspended his sophomore year for conduct detrimental to the team, which reportedly surrounded his conditioning effort. He was also suspended the following year for violating team rules during a road trip, and was later dismissed from the team after an altercation with another player.

The former first-round draft choice has three big-league relief appearances under his belt, all of which came in 2020. In 2021, the southpaw made 11 starts across multiple minor-league levels in the Nationals' farm system.
