Bregman: I would play shortstop at an 'All-Star level'
"My most athletic days were in 2018 and 2019. I was basically a shortstop playing third base," Bregman told Michael Schwab of "The Schwabcast" on Monday. "Last year, I was a third baseman. … I wanna be able to move like a shortstop again, cut angles better. We are having an extreme emphasis on that in the gym this offseason."
The 2019 AL MVP runner-up said he can play short at an "All-Star level" if the Astros need him to hold down the position.
Bregman's registered 129 games at short in his career, including 59 starts in 2019. He manned the position throughout college and in the minors after being drafted by the Astros.
The two-time All-Star added that he would love for Houston to bring back free-agent shortstop Carlos Correa. However, Correa has reportedly turned down numerous multi-year offers from the Astros.
