Orioles sign Odor to 1-year deal
The Baltimore Orioles signed infielder Rougned Odor to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.
The contract is for the major-league minimum salary, according to Dan Connolly of The Athletic. That number has yet to be set by MLB.
Odor spent last season with the New York Yankees, who acquired him from the Texas Rangers after he'd been designated for assignment on the eve of the season. In 102 games with the Bronx Bombers, Odor hit .202/.286/.379 with 15 homers, 39 RBIs, and 100 strikeouts across 361 plate appearances while playing both second and third base.
New York released him earlier this month, several days after removing the 27-year-old from its 40-man roster.
Odor's 33-homer campaign in 2016 led the Rangers to give him a $49.5-million extension, but his bat soon lost that punch and he quickly fell out of favor in Texas. The Rangers agreed to pay the final two years of his deal when they dealt him to New York; he's still owed $12 million in 2022, minus what Baltimore is paying.
In Baltimore, he'll add a bit of pop from the left side to a young Orioles club in need of infield help.
For his career, Odor is a .234/.289/.433 hitter with 161 homers and 497 RBIs across parts of eight big-league seasons.
