To nobody's surprise, the Dodgers (+550) are favored to win it all after leading the field from Opening Day until their eventual loss to the Braves in the NLCS. Los Angeles will likely enter the season as favorites, but that could change given the club's star-studded crop of free agents highlighted by Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, Kenley Jansen, and postseason hero Chris Taylor.
The Astros (+700), who fell two games short of their second World Series title in five years, are once again favored to win the American League and avenge their loss as favorites this past campaign. Houston will face stiff competition in the AL, with the Yankees (+900) and White Sox (+1000) expected to load up this offseason following early exits in 2021.
Can Atlanta (+1200) repeat in 2022? The squad was an unlikely winner this past season, sitting at .500 or worse all the way until Aug. 6 before making a miracle run to the World Series. Things could get even tougher, with postseason stars Freddie Freeman, Eddie Rosario, and Jorge Soler all set to enter free agency.
The Blue Jays (+1300) and Padres (+1400) both missed the playoffs a year ago, but they enter the offseason priced as likely postseason teams for this upcoming campaign. Sitting right behind them on the oddsboard is San Francisco (+1500), which surprisingly paced the majors last season with 107 wins - tied for 13th-most in MLB history. However, the Giants are unlikely to sustain that success in 2022.
The division rival Rays (+1600) and Red Sox (+1600) enter this campaign as dark-horse contenders after exceeding expectations in 2021, while the Mets (+1800) and Brewers (+1800) are in the title conversation thanks to star-studded rotations. The Cardinals (+2500) are the only other club shorter than 30-1 following a stellar run to end the season. And that may prove significant: 17 of the last 18 World Series winners entered the year priced shorter than 30-1.
