New York Mets team president Sandy Alderson will remain in that role with the organization for the 2022 season, a source told Newsday's Tim Healey.

Team owner Steve Cohen re-hired Alderson in September 2020 after the 73-year-old executive had stepped away from the organization in 2019 due to a recurrence of cancer.

The Mets intend for Alderson to hire new baseball-operations staff so he can direct his efforts toward the business side of the team, Healey adds.

Alderson's future with the Mets was uncertain after issues involving a number of his hires.

General manager Zack Scott is facing DWI charges after he was arrested on Aug. 31. Scott replaced Jared Porter, who was fired in January, less than six weeks after his hiring, after it was reported that he'd sent unsolicited explicit texts and pictures to a female reporter. MLB investigated and later suspended him. The club fired hitting performance coordinator Ryan Ellis in January as well after three women previously reported he sexually harassed them. MLB also suspended former Mets manager Mickey Callaway in May after investigating him for alleged sexual misconduct during his time with multiple clubs.

The Mets have not decided on Scott's future with the organization yet, according to Healey's sources.

Alderson has been running the Mets' baseball operations with his son Bryn Anderson and assistant GM Ian Levin while Scott is on administrative leave.
