The Toronto Blue Jays traded veteran right-hander John Axford to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday for cash considerations, the team announced.

Milwaukee is sending $1 to Toronto for Axford, according to The Associated Press.

The hurler was allowed to be traded after last Friday's deadline because he wasn't on a 40-man roster.

Shortly after the trade was completed, the Brewers added Axford to their active roster. In a corresponding move, they placed relief ace Josh Hader on the COVID-19 injured list.

Axford signed a minor-league deal with Toronto in June after he'd been doing television analysis for the Blue Jays. The club signed him after he touched 98 mph with his fastball while pitching for Canada at the Olympic qualifiers.

He owned a 0.77 ERA with 15 strikeouts and three walks in 11 2/3 innings for the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate.

The 38-year-old returns to familiar territory in Milwaukee. He spent five seasons with the Brewers between 2009-2013, amassing a 3.35 ERA and 106 saves in 268 outings.

Axford is second all time in saves for Milwaukee, trailing only Dan Plesac.
