Washington Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg will undergo season-ending surgery Wednesday for neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome, manager Dave Martinez announced Tuesday, according to Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post.

The hope is that Strasburg will be ready for spring training in February 2022.

Strasburg only made five starts this season after dealing with neck and shoulder issues. The 2019 World Series MVP has logged 26 2/3 innings in two years since signing a seven-year, $245-million contract in December 2019.

The 33-year-old owns a career 3.21 ERA with 10.6 K/9 over 12 years with the Nationals, which includes three All-Star campaigns and a championship.
